Best Pickleball Courts in Chicago: Where to Play Outdoors in 2026

Last updated: December 2025

Pickleball has officially taken over Chicago. The Chicago Park District is rapidly converting tennis courts and building new dedicated facilities to keep up with demand. From the stunning skyline views at Maggie Daley to the new dedicated hub in Grant Park, here is your guide to the best outdoor pickleball courts in Chicago for the 2026 season.

Outdoor pickleball courts in a Chicago park setting
Summer in the city means packed courts. Arrive early or be prepared to "stack paddles."

1. Grant Park (The New Hub)

Located near Columbus and Balbo, this is the crown jewel of downtown pickleball. These are dedicated courts (not temporary nets on tennis courts), centrally located, and draw a massive crowd.

  • Vibe: Busy, social, and iconic Chicago views.
  • Best For: High-energy open play.

2. Maggie Daley Park

Right next to Millennium Park, these courts offer perhaps the best backdrop in the city. However, they are often shared with tennis and require paid reservations through the Park District system.

3. Neighborhood Gems (Dedicated Courts)

The real growth is happening in the neighborhoods, where the Park District is creating dedicated spaces with permanent nets.

  • Horner Park (North Side): A fantastic hub with multiple dedicated courts and a strong local community.
  • Gately Park (South Side): A major athletic complex featuring excellent new pickleball facilities.
Winter Warning: These outdoor courts are great from May to October. Once the snow flies, you need to move inside. Check our guide to Indoor Pickleball Courts in Chicago.

The "Paddle Stack" Culture

At free, public courts like Grant Park, the rule is "stacking paddles." If all courts are full, you place your paddle in a line rack. When a game finishes, the next group in line takes the court. It's the best way to meet people and get games.
